[Title] Treasure Hunt
[Fandom] Harry Potter
[Rating] G
[Notes/Summary] Luna goes on a treasure hunt around Hogwarts.
Hogwarts really was a brilliant place for a treasure hunt. Left shoe. So many corridors and passages, and all of it moving and alive around her.
Charms textbook. She'd always dreamed of living in a castle. Like home, but bigger. A castle with infinite numbers of rooms, full of things to discover. She'd fill it with the bones of mysterious creatures and clever books she'd written about Nargles and Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. Socks. The corridors were quietening down now, most people heading back to their common rooms to do homework or hang out with their friends. A few of the older children glanced at her as they passed, laughed at the funny little first-year with her arms full of things.
Quill.
So it was just like she'd wanted.
She wondered if you ever got to see inside the other common rooms. Maybe if you had friends in other Houses, they'd invite you? She'd like to know what the others were like. She imagined for a while: Gryffindor all fiery and warm, with lots of swords on the wall and suits of armour; Slytherin dark and mysterious with an underground stream and pet snakes; Hufflepuff...
The Hat had asked her if she'd wanted to be in Hufflepuff. It'd said probably Ravenclaw, that it was obvious she loved finding things out, but it had said she was loyal, too. But Daddy had always said Ravenclaw was the best, and nothing but the best for my Luna! Because clever people went to Ravenclaw and then they found out the truth about things and they published it and no matter what the Ministry or You-Know-Who did to try and hush them up, they spoke out, and they discovered new things, and...
Right shoe. Potions textbook. That wasn't very good, why hide two things in the same place? If they were going to make her do a treasure hunt, they could at least put proper effort into it.
In Hufflepuff they probably didn't -
No, no, no. Daddy also said you couldn't worry about whether people liked you. He said people were unkind that way, but it was all right, because if you didn't worry about it then you could publish the truth even if they didn't believe you. He said it was always best to be yourself.
Luna wished she'd asked him what to do about treasure hunts, whether there was a way to stop them happening when you had a lot of homework to do and hadn't really wanted to go on a journey outside the common room. Inkpot. But that was silly, too. She was a Ravenclaw now, wasn't she? She would figure it out. And she was pretty sure if she'd been doing this treasure hunt, none of these things would ever have been found. So that was something. She'd plan that, think of some really good hiding places. And then next time this happened, she'd be much faster. Hairbrush.
