The third day of Christmas
Not much has happened today except revision and shopping (ARGH, QUEUES OF DEATH), so... I present the third day of Christmas challenges, three serenades!
I interpreted 'serenade' perhaps more literally than most others, but what the heck ^^

[Notes/Summary] The Marauders inadvertently treat Lily Evans to a taste of their musical genius. Lyrics (c) The Beatles. Sorry if there are any canon errors in this.
"Nah, it could work. Think about it..."
Lily Evans stops as she hears James Potter's voice echo out into the corridor. Great. And she'd been having such a good morning up until now...
"I'd be John. You could be Paul. Moony'd be George, and Wormtail'd have to be Ringo."
"Why do I have to be Ringo?"
"Because John and Paul are the cool ones," Sirius Black says, "and George is the quiet one. That's right, isn't it?"
"It is indeed, Padfoot my friend. The two of us coming up with all the songs, Moony being sensible, and you, Wormtail? You're the -"
"The goofy one," Remus Lupin cuts in. "While John and Paul are too busy posing to have fun."
"Hey, we both know how to have fun and you know it!" James yells.
Remus doesn't reply.
"Besides," James is continuing, "'Hey Bulldog' is obviously about us."
"It is?" Peter says.
"Sure it is!" Lily hears a clatter that sounds a lot like a Hogwarts student clambering onto a desk. "A one, two, one two three four, dun dun dun da-dun-dun, da-dun dun dun da-dun-dun..." His rendition of the introduction to the song is accompanied by a series of thumps that could be him stamping on the desk or possibly the others drumming with their hands. "Sheepdog - dog, Wormtail - standing in the rain... Bullfrog... doing it again..."
"Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles..." Sirius chimes in, sounding like he's singing rude chants at an opposing Quidditch team. "What makes you think you're something special when you smile..."
Lily knows that there's absolutely no reason for her to be standing here listening to this, but she's smiling. She's not sure why she's smiling. Normally the way James and his friends mess around sets her teeth on edge. But this isn't like that. Even if she doesn't understand why the song has anything to do with them.
Maybe she's just hanging around to see them get caught by Filch, or Peeves, or one or another of Hogwarts's faculty members. Who probably won't be long in arriving - what the boys lack in harmony they make up for in volume.
"You can talk to meee, you can talk to meeeeeee..." It sounds like Peter, and even Remus, have joined in by now. "You can talk to meeee, if you're lonely you can talk to me!"
"What are you going to do, serenade Evans with this?" Sirius says. "'If you're lonely you can talk to me... alone... up on the astronomy towerrrr...'"
"Somehow I don't think that'll work," Remus says.
Lily agrees.
"Oh, shut up," James says. "Big man, walking in the park... wigwam... frightened of the dark... some kind of solitude is measured out in you..."
"They think they know us but they haven't got a clue!"
"You can talk to meeee..."
"Go on, do it, Padfoot..."
James is continuing to hum the background music. Lily hears the others laughing, and then -
Then a dog barks.
"Heeeey bulldog!"
"Hey man," James says now. "What's that, boy?"
Another bark. Lily wonders if it's Sirius messing around, pretending to be a dog, but if he is, it's a really good impression. And - there's a thump, probably James leaping off the desk, and then she hears it, the skitter of claws on a polished floor.
"What d'you say?"
And the dog is barking back, as if it knows the song too, and the others are shouting things, and it barks and barks and barks, and Lily aches to push open the door and see what's going on, because she hates James Potter knowing things she doesn't -
And it sounds like they're having so much fun...
"Uh... Prongs? Padfoot?" Remus is shouting over the noise. "Potions started five minutes ago..."
"And I was having such a lovely time," James says. Lily can hear the grin in his voice. For once that doesn't annoy her, because for once he isn't grinning at someone else getting picked on. "Okay, okay. Come on, mate, come back to us."
There's a pause, and then - "I think we're going to be the next big thing," Sirius says.
Lily starts to hurry back down the corridor, but before she can get very far, the door has burst open and James and his friends have hurtled out into the corridor. When they see her, they skid to a halt.
"Evans. Fancy meeting you here." James is grinning, but for the first time she can remember, he's looking awkward, like she's caught him doing something wrong. Well, she often catches him doing things that are wrong, but normally he doesn't care.
"Mm. I was just... going," she says.
"Yeah, shouldn't you be in Potions?" Sirius says.
"I stopped to listen to the noise," she says. "I could... hear you all the way down the corridor. Did you..." There's no sign of a dog now. Was it a portrait or something? But she heard its claws on the floor... "Uh... was there a dog in there?"
The four of them look at each other, and then James and Sirius both start snickering. Peter giggles, and even Remus smiles a little.
"Yeah," James says at last. "Yeah, in a manner of speaking."
"Don't worry about it, Evans," Sirius says, smirking. "It's too much for your fragile little mind to comprehend."
And just like that everything is back to normal. Lily rolls her eyes and turns away, walking as fast as she can.
God, James Potter is annoying.

[Notes/Summary] Ban and Ginji's Christmas is not going at all well. The lyrics they unconsciously sing are from RENT and so (c) Jonathan Larson. I don't know GB at all well so this may be completely wrong. Just sayin' ^^
The pavement is cold and hard and there's only one streetlamp not broken, flicking on and off above them in an irritating manner. Ban hunches up, blowing on his cold fingers, and Ginji sighs and glances up at the black, empty sky and then back down at his watch.
"Ban-chan?" he says at last.
"I know it's freezing out here."
"No, I -"
"And I know we could actually die of hypothermia."
"Yes, but -"
"And I know we could really, really do with the car about now, but we don't have it, so we're just gonna have to hope someone comes along soon and... wants us to get their Christmas presents back or something. Okay? Okay."
"No, I was just gonna say it's past midnight," Ginji says, staring up at the sky again, the streetlight making his hair and face glow. "It's Christmas Day."
"Oh, for God's sake..."
"No, it's like you said! It's Christmas, so someone's bound to lose a special present or something and want us to get it back. Maybe it'll have been taken somewhere warm... and then they'll pay us and we can get turkey and, and crackers and stuff, and -"
"Ginji," Ban snarls. Shut up."
Ginji sinks into silence for a few moments, but the next moment he's humming under his breath. "Christmas bells are ringing... Christmas bells are ringing... Christmas bells are singing -"
"Somewhere else!" Ban snaps. "Not here!"
A couple of late-night partygoers hurry down the street.
"Can't you spare a yen or two?" Ginji calls out to them, but they ignore him and hurry past, laughing.
"Here but for the grace of God go you!" Ban hollers after them.
"Aw, come on, Ban-chan, it's Christmas. You'll be merry, I'll be merry -"
"But merry ain't in my vocabulary!" Ban yells, turning on Ginji. "Look - no sleigh bells! No Santa Claus -"
"But Ban-chan -"
"No yule log - no tinsel -"
"Ban-chan, no!"
"No holly - no hearth, no -"
"Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer," Ginji chimes in miserably. "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer..."
"Shut up - no room," Ban snaps, "at the holiday inn..."
"Oh, no..."
Ginji glances up at again at the cold yellow light, and squints at the glowing specks floating in its beam.
"And it's beginning to snow," he says sadly.
Ban sighs. It's going to be a long night.
I interpreted 'serenade' perhaps more literally than most others, but what the heck ^^

2) What IS is about the Marauders that makes them so good for this? I wrote one,
3) I LOVE IT! Your Ginji voice is really well done - his hopeful line about getting paid and getting to eat turkey and have crackers is really, really him. It's very, very well done and Ban's all bitter and they just ... click. It's AWESOME, I adore it.

And GO RINGO indeed :D
I think the Marauders just exude singing vibes ^^
