Thank you - I was aware of the basics of pre-decimalisation British currency. However, no matter how 'charmless' the current pound and pence system is, I still like having a national currency that is different from other places, and while having the euro makes travelling on the Continent easier, I rather enjoyed the different currencies I came across on different holidays.
