The Japanese age of consent laws

Well, originally it was 13 years old. However, different areas have different laws which can vary from 13 up to 18. In Tokyo, it's not 18. I don't think there's any difference between the AoC for heterosexuals and for gay men - no mention on lesbians at all - but I didn't get a chance to nose into that enough.
General consensus on the Net (oh most reliable of sources ^_^) seems to be 'don't get caught doing it with someone under 18.'
This is about a quarter of an hour's research, but hey, I thought it might be interesting to certain people. If anyone's got any other info feel free to post it, I am keen to know!
