This is a really awkward area of social etiquette. First of all, a haircut is usually quite a lot, so you're more likely to pay by debit card or cheque; so you can't just say 'keep the change'. Also, you're usually paying at a counter, so even if you are paying by cash, it might just look like you're handing over the wrong amount of money. ALSO, when you go out for a meal and tip, it's easy, you all do it and then leave. You're usually getting your hair cut on your own so you don't have someone else's lead to follow and are scared you'll look stupid. Services charges should be included, I say!

These are only good when (a) you've discovered them yourself, rather than having them dinged into your head by an English teacher until you're ready to KILL (b) you agree with them. Oh, and the writers' skill helps as well. There's nothing worse than a bunch of cardboard cut-out characters moving around a plot which is spelling out something crushingly obvious like 'It's mean to pick on people because of their skin colour.' Another problem with hidden messages if the author worries that they're not coming across properly, so devotes everything to demonstrating them, leading to out of character behaviour or unconvincing plots. However, hidden messages can be fun if they're in a book/movie you love, and you agree with them. Then you can lean back and say 'Wow, this book/movie is so cool. It has depth and literary significance.'

Very nice rant!

*Am pleased* ^_^ But yes as a author myself, I'm now writting a script that I find to be interesting, but am running into a big problem.

It makes sense and it makes no sense at the same time.

O.O;;; The plot is a mind twister, and the danger that I'm running into with it is that it might be too confusing and it'll end up being unconvining.

You know, I've only ever seen one hairdressers that openly hints for tips, and even then, they won't be offended if you don't. That's what puts me off visiting America: tipping every damned person. ::is stingy:: ^^

::has nothing to say on second rant except 'word'::

I get out of tipping for haircuts by having the family do it for me. MWHAHAHAH! :)

And good rants, very nicely done!
