1. Post a list of 10 books/movies/TV shows that you've had a fannish love of at some time in your life.
2. Have your friends guess your favorite character from each one.
3. You can cross out the show/movie/book and put the character when someone guesses right.
In no particular order...
1) Biker Mice From Mars
2)Ghost In The Shell Batou, guessed by
angrychemist
3) Dog City
4)Saiyuki Cho Hakkai, guessed by
lycoris
5)Bugsy Malone Blousey Brown, guessed by
lycoris
6)The Song of the Lioness quartet Alanna, guessed by
lycoris
7) RENT
8)Little Shop of Horrors Seymour, guessed by
lycoris
9)Chobits Chi, guessed by
lycoris
10) Power Stone 2
Apologies for the random selection there - I had to omit Jet Set Radio, Akira, Battle Royale and Lost because I can't pick a favourite character! (Maybe that's what makes me want to actually write fic for something...)
Am currently reading an advice book for teenage girls. The first chapter was quite useful, but I can't take the others totally seriously. I think my favourite quote so far is 'Women's sexuality is one of the most powerful forces in the world'. I guess it testifies to my anime geek-ness that I thought 'I reckon Tetsuo's psychic powers are stronger.' I fail at life ^^
Can we please stop trying to think up reasons why menstruation is positive? In this book, the two reasons why (yay!) periods are good is that they are:
1) The reminder every month of being able to give birth (first of all, you can have normal periods and still have fertility problems later on. Second of all, being able to nurture a baby may be A Wonderful Gift, but it's one not all of us want to use right now or perhaps ever. Third of all, if you are having fertility problems, your period becomes your reminder of how you're not able to give birth. Fourth of all, period cramps hurt enough. It seems to me that reminding a girl of how having a baby will hurt even more is not a good thing.)
2) The chance to be overly sensitive and have a good cry (because girls are, y'know, models of stoicism most of the time. If I want to have a good cry, I watch weepy AMVs or read BR book 10 or something! Then it's good crying! I don't like bursting into tears or screaming at people for a week! I don't like feeling really depressed and miserable for no reason! I don't like being overly sensitive! I think this is possibly the lamest reason I've ever heard in my entire life.)
Can't we just decide on a new party line of 'periods kinda suck. Just like spots suck. But we can deal with it'?
This book is trying to keep a foot in every PC camp possible. It's actually quite entertaining.

3) Never seen it.
4) Sanzo
5) Tallulah
6) Alanna
7) Angel (that's the only name I remember off hand!)
8) Audrey II
9) Chi
10) Don't know it.
I feel I ought to have known more of these more positively. Still, never mind! :D
And I had problems with favourite characters for some of mine too. Even the ones that I actually selected for people to pick.
And that advice annoys me too. I don't want to give birth and being overly sensitive is a pain. If you want a good cry, you can find something to have a good cry at. Then there's "Having a good cry because someone may have suggested that I could possibly buy carrots." I prefer to cry because fo something reasonable rather than something stupid.
So yeah, I agree with you. Seriously annoying. Periods are not good, no one likes them and we should all face up to it.

Date: 2006-08-20 08:24 pm (UTC)I put down Lost and Akira at first, but then ended up dithering and had to take them down.
Yes! You have got it in one!

8) The Dentist.
I did a lot of dithering too. But I think I settled on the right people in the end!
*stabs periods*

Date: 2006-08-19 08:46 pm (UTC)(But a plus to having children! No periods! FOR NINE MONTHS!)
Does the woman who wrote that enjoy getting her period? Does she wake up to a bedsheet stain with a smile and a reinvigorated lifelustre? That's my question. If so, she may be afflicted with being completely bonkers.
And the only one of those movies I can attest to both seeing and remembering is Little Shop of Horrors. I don't know who you like, but I'm a big fan of the dentist.

Date: 2006-08-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(True, but apparently there's other downers. Women's bodies suck sometimes.)
Yes! Exactly! It sounded like she didn't enjoy it, so why pretend? *runs round in small circles*
I like the dentist, but he's not my favourite character.
Aren't uber-feminists supposed to approve of periods? Cos they're like an example of women's power? Or something?
