Random comment on sociopaths

Was reading an article in The Telegraph about this guy who's making a TV drama about Myra Hindley, and he interviewed the psychologist who spoke to her a lot when she was in jail. He comments that:

The picture that emerges is of a kaleidoscopic personality, a classic 'hysteric', someone with no identifiable core who selects aspects of others' personalities and reflects them back as her own to make herself more acceptable yet simultaneously more inscrutable.

Which initially made me think of Kazuo Kiriyama, but also is kind of what I was going for with my character Kimiko Kurosaka in Akira Royale. Nice to know (well, not 'nice', more like 'interesting') that people like that do really exist and it's not all BR writers' crazy imaginations.

On another note, I'm joining the chorus of people who wish LJ would make the search function accessible when you're not logged in. Dammit, I want to be able to quickly browse fanficrants without having to spend the extra few seconds logging in! It is my right! *thumps table* Mainly because if I log in, I then feel I have to check my Friends page. And often I am only checking fanficrants to kill time before a lecture. And... yeah. *cough*



Hope I don't accidentally insult anyone on my Flist with this. I don't think I did, but sorry if you feel this is targeted at you. It isn't meant to be - I'm positive no one on the Flist has done any of this stuff.

1) Seme/uke divisions. Actually, that's not quite true. I can tolerate mild seme-uke dynamics in a pairing, but too much crying and I start noticing it and then get thrown out of the story. I know I've done this myself, but spending so much time on fanficrants has made me notice it more.

2) Tetsuo putting Kaori first because he loves her. Okay, so I am biased against Tetsuo/Kaori, and I haven't seen a finished fic with this cliche in (for all I know, the authors were planning to make them break up horribly) but I'd just like to point out that movie!Tetsuo was too busy having Kaneda issues to care when Kaori had just been beaten up and nearly raped, and manga!Tetsuo had her forcibly brought to his palace so she could participate in an orgy and almost certainly die from taking psychic-drugs. I'm not saying they don't have feelings for each other, I'm just saying their relationship in canon isn't all happy-happy-joy-joy. And yes, that is partly because of circumstances, and changing the circumstances would change the relationship. But I still don't like it.

3) New girls turning up at the Eighth District Vocational Training School and managing to gain entry to the Capsules due to their l33t biker skills. Admittedly we can't prove that Kaneda wouldn't let a girl into the gang, but it always feel so... Sue-ish.

4) In a BR fic, Mizuho Inada shows up and saves the day by acting weird and kooky. Technically I should only be complaining about this when the fic is manga canon, because that's the only one where it states she has schizophrenia, but... dammit. I suppose it's partly that when this happens, the author seems to feel that Mizuho's weirdness is just wacky and fun and there couldn't be any possible dark side to it, and I think there is. I think Mizuho has problems.

5) Kaneda is in love with Tetsuo and expresses his feelings by writing angsty poetry to him. Actually, I would dislike this if Kaneda was in love with anyone and expressed his feelings this way, but it always seems to be Tetsuo who's the recipient of these efforts. Lucky Tetsuo.

(He is evil, really. Okay, he had issues but he's still evil (orgies, pills, causing destruction of city, killing large chunks of the city's biker population, trying to squish Kaneda with a forklift truck, bullying small wrinkled children and being mean to Kaori. Yup, evil. EEEVIL.)

(I'd forgotten that. But he so is.)

(I should really stop trying to rewrite the entire theme tune to apply to him.)

Issues does not excuse one from being evil. Although Tetsuo did suffer from being stoned out of his brains a bit. And confusing psychic powers. So I can pat him and say he's complex. :)

No, no, do please keep rewriting the theme song for him. :D

I know, I know. Although yes, he was kind of a bit on drugs at the time (the question of how insane Tetsuo was is one I mean to ponder in depth at some point. I personally think he wouldn't be able to plead insanity in a court, although probably mitigating circumstances.)

If you ever do ponder it, do tell me - I'd be interested. I'd go with mitigating circumstances too but he seems malicious with it which is tricky - I don't know the canon as well as you but his killing of Yamagata in the anime seems really rather pointless.

And yeah, he is malicious (Yamagata's death in the manga is obviously a hell of a lot less pointless and more 'OMG YOU'RE GOING TO SHOOT ME *explodyheadness*') Anyway, there will be rambling. (I need to ponder this for fic purposes actually, so it will probably be quite soon.)

The problem is finding rhymes for 'Tokyo'...

*grudgingly forgives you for forgetting Yamagata's death, which went pretty much like this:

Every other biker in the city: *attacks Tetsuo*
Tetsuo: *pwns all*
Yamagata: *stumbles out of the wreckage looking traumatised*
Tetsuo: *walks menacingly towards him*
Kaneda: *arrives in dramatic fashion*
Tetsuo and Kaneda: *have issues*
Kaneda: *attempts to shoot Tetsuo but can't*
Tetsuo: *throws forklift truck at Kaneda*
Yamagata: *dives on gun, attempts to shoot Tetsuo with no problem*
Tetsuo: *goes all head-explody*
Yamagata: *dies*
Kaneda: *is not pleased*

So, um, yay for rambling? :P

I can only think of 'smoke, yo' as in 'let's have a smoke, yo' so if you have any other rhymes, tell me!
