I've written 30 now, and promptly got stuck. *cudgels brain for more fandoms*

[Notes/Summary] Kotoko is relieved that Hideki's persocom-related incompetence hasn't damaged Plum.
"It's fine! It's all fine!"
Kotoko glanced round as Hideki stumbled back into the apartment. Chi had already scrambled up to throw her arms around him, but Kotoko didn't move. It would be inefficient to move, right? Hideki was going to tell her the news right now and he'd said it was fine, so it would be fine.
(Except that Hideki was not a persocom. Humans had funny ideas of what was fine. Some humans thought it was fine to splatter soda or crumbs all over their persocoms because they were usually wipe-clean, weren't they? Some humans thought it was fine to overload a persocom's hard drive because they just couldn't get enough pornography, or music, or pointless videos about cats doing clever things with milk. And some humans thought it was fine not to bother to renew their virus protection subscription because they were a stupid ronin who imagined that that was a sensible way to save money. Quite frankly, Kotoko didn't see why she should have any faith in Hideki at all.)
"He restored her hard drive," Hideki said, hurrying over to the table, Chi following. He fumbled in the pocket of his bag. "He said he'd managed to save all her memories - her memory, I mean - and she should, uh, be restored to full functionality right away."
"Hmm." Kotoko didn't have to say I'll believe it when I see it - Hideki glanced away, looking guilty, and focused on easing Plum out of the pocket of the bag, tenderly, and placing her on the (scrupulously clean - Kotoko had checked) desk.
He pressed the switch on Plum's ear, and her eyes flew open.
"Welcome back, Master!" she chirped, leaping to her feet. "Plum is sorry to have caused any trouble! Plum would ask Master to refer to her user's manual warranty if Master is thinking of sueing Plum's makers for any loss, damage, mental or physical harm, expenditure or any other negative effects caused by Plum's unfortunate down time!" She frowned. "And Plum has been out of commission for three days! Master and Kotoko and Chi have been without their daily exercise routine for seventy-two hours!" Grabbing her little tambourine, she began to beat time. "One, two, three, four -"
"Plum, it's all right," Hideki said hastily, but he was grinning, and so was Chi. "It's five p.m. We can leave the exercises until tomorrow."
"Is Master sure?"
"Yes. It's fine."
"If it is five p.m.," Plum said, "which it is, as Plum's internal clock has been set correctly, Master needs to begin to get ready for work!"
Hideki yelped, stared at his watch, and then began frantically running round the apartment looking for his shoes.
"Huh." Kotoko scowled at Plum. "I see the virus didn't change your ridiculously perky personality."
"Nope! Persocom Solutions Ltd managed to save my entire drive, despite the initial damage!" Plum jangled her tambourine in a victory dance.
Kotoko was not the kind of persocom who smiled, as a rule, but she could feel one flickering on her face as she said, "Well. Good."

Date: 2009-03-31 11:42 am (UTC)I really like the manga - have heard mixed reports of the anime. I seem to recall you told me once you found it creepy, though?
