Long information about my Chinese Astrological future. Ah, the joys of wasting time... (information gathered from here.)

Though the Western rat is reviled as little more than a bottom-dwelling disease carrier, this animal is viewed much differently in the East. The Eastern rat is revered for its quick wits and its ability to accrue and hold on to items of value; rats are considered a symbol of good luck and wealth in both China and Japan.

I wonder why Nezu in Akira is mocked for his protruding teeth and unfortunate name, then.

Clever and quick-witted, the Rat of the Chinese Zodiac is utterly disarming to boot.

I doubt that.

Possessed of excellent taste,

What can I say *preen, blush*

this Sign flaunts its style at every turn.

*is wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt saying I'm not stressed, I'm just terribly terribly alert on it (which coincidentally has a picture of a stressed-looking rodent above it). Make of that what you will*

Its natural charm and sharp, funny demeanor make it an appealing friend for almost anyone. The Rat likes to know who is on its side and will treat its most loyal friends with an extra measure of protection and generosity.

Those are not on its side will be dropped into a river while wearing concrete boots.

Behind that sweet smile, though, Rats are keen and unapologetic promoters of their own agendas.

Err... of course not.

This Sign is motivated by its own interests,

Oh, come on, who isn't?

which often include money; greed can become a problem if the Rat isn't careful to keep its priorities straight.

*very innocent look, much nonchalant whistling*

This Sign's natural powers of charm and persuasion can definitely come in handy! Although they are often hoarders, Rats can be very generous to those in their "pack," namely friends and family members who have proven their loyalty. Others might perceive them as quick-tempered and sharp-tongued, but never boorish. Verbal jousting is a great pleasure for the Rat, a Sign that everyone around will quickly learn either to love or to hate.

Pretty much true. Especially the verbal jousting (note to self: walk away from the long and tiresome arguments....)

Rats enjoy being on the outside looking in, as the outside affords a view into the inner workings of a system or situation. The Rat's keen mind always seeks out new knowledge, to be stored away for future use. This ever-curious Sign also welcomes challenges as a way to stay sharp. If boredom sets in the Rat is no fun at all, but that isn't likely; this Sign knows how to keep itself entertained.

Obviously you weren't around during the last two weeks when I spent all my free time reading rants about fanfiction on the Internet and killing off canon characters...

A valuable lesson for Rats is to learn to consider others above themselves, at least sometimes.

Now that hurts.

If they can develop their sense of self and realize it leaves room for others in their life as well, Rats could find true happiness. The most compatible match for a Rat is the Dragon or the Monkey.

Like the rings of a tree circle out and expand through the years, so too do those born under the Chinese Astrology Element of Wood. You Wood personalities seek chances for growth and for renewal in all you do, 'branching out' (excuse the pun!) whenever possible.

Except when the dreaded apathy takes over and I want nothing more than to curl up under a duvet and lurk.

Your open, expansive mind makes you a compassionate and generous friend, colleague and ally. You understand the inherent value of what you and those around you possess, and your confidence allows you to act upon your beliefs.

Don't know if it's true, but it sounds good.

While your strength forms the backbone of any social group or partnership you're a part of, you could have a tendency to be a bit too systematic in your thinking, and sometimes your passivity allows others to overwhelm and inhibit you. Don't let yourself be lost in a vast forest, an anonymous tree among millions of others. Make your mark on the world -- you're especially adept at business ventures.

I am NOT. On the other hand, the only experience with business I've ever had has been that project to sell T-shirts when I was seventeen...

The Rat may encounter some financial challenges, for their business will need utmost care and tending in order to reach full prosperity. But they should not wreck their health by working excessively.

HAH! Screw you, summer exams!

On the contrary, they would be better off looking for a good sense of relaxation in meditation and reflection.

This is probably true.

Dear Rat, be a bookworm, and you'll profit from the year well. Do you know that reading is for the mind what exercise is for the body, as Joseph Addison said? Of course, it isn't necessary to read much, but it is necessary to read usefully. Through reading, you can find the means to ennoble yourself and to become wiser.

I can live with that.

What Your Element Has To Add
Wood Rat
Enterprising and at the same time sufficiently prudent so as not to take excessive risks, you'll cleverly manage your affairs. This is what will allow you to beat all obstacles and to reach important professional objectives this year.

Okay, I will now stop wittering on about rats. Uh, the Musicals Society social last night was not as bad as it could have been. After spending an hour (!!) deciding what to wear (OMG! Am actually turning into someone who cares about clothes) I headed out to meet the others in one of the uni bars... we then went down into town to two pubs. In the second one we played 'I Have Never' (people take it in turns to say 'I have never... (insert interesting and possibly rude thing here)' and all those who have done it have to take a drink.) We found out two of the cast members own vibrators, about five of us fancy someone else in the cast, and three people have kissed someone of the same sex, among other things. Ooooh. Scandalous.
Then we went to a club where they were playing cheesy music. Cheesy music is something I am fond of, however smoke and a dance floor so full you can't actually dance are not. Also I was getting tired by then so I seized the opportunity to leave when two other girls did at about one a.m.

Also I have noticed that I am finding the bad guy in our play strangely compelling. His actor plays him really well, and there's something about his obsessive, crazed, violent, teetering-on-the-borderline-of-insanity personality that is turning me into a closeted squeeing fangirl. I'm not sure this is a good thing. (I privately squeeed over the bad guy in the last play I did, who was a sadistic narrow-minded git. Sigh.) The only time I squee over the hero is when he's suddenly at risk of being hanged for murder.

Am so far managing to avoid obsessively checking the hit counter on my fanfic. I don't think hit counters are a good thing. Either it means people read, but get bored and don't finish, or they read and can't be arsed to review *incoherent mutterings, sporkings, etc* Now if there was a hit counter that could somehow measure how many people finish the chapter, that'd be good.

Edit: Sorry about pimping my fanfic twice. I keep forgetting to post to the correct journal #^_^#

I like rats. They have cute noses and their tails feel funny. </irrelevant>

Glad it wasn't so bad. That game sounds... err, enlightening. ^^; (Did you have to drink anything? You don't have to say why you had to if you don't want to. ^^)

I must find out about the play, it sounds interesting and I know nothing at all about it.
