Have just got back from London - I met up with some people from the university musicals society and we went to see The Lion King musical in the West End!

Extremely imaginatively staged, with a really good African vibe. The little boy playing young Simba couldn't sing and couldn't really act (but could dance); the rest of the cast were pretty good although I still think they're not quite as good, vocally, as the Disney cast members. I think with a musical like that people (unsurprisingly) have to be cast depending on their singing and dancing ability and that's why they're not always such amazing actors - which is a shame, because it weakens the show.
But that makes it sound like I didn't like the show, when I really did. They added some new songs and some new scenes, all of which worked well, and most of the staging was utterly beautiful. Very stylised, no one looks like they're wearing DisneyWorld costumes, which is good; the whole thing has a completely different (but still amazing) look from the movie.

I then spent an extremely uncomfortable night on a friend's living room floor. I had a sleeping bag, but the zip had been busted so it wouldn't close, plus we (not I) decided to start watching Freaky Friday at two a.m and then fell asleep in front of it... well, those people who are able to fall asleep when there's a movie blaring two feet away did... about two-thirds of the way through the movie, I realised I couldn't sleep, realised everyone else was asleep, and switched off the damn thing. Then still couldn't sleep so curled up in an armchair. I think I had about four hours sleep altogether... hasn't caught up with me yet.

On Tuesday night, Mum and I watched the remake of the movie The Manchurian Candidate. It was great, and it was fascinating to see how the two movies and the book differ from each other. Whoever made the remake obviously respected the original movie - and I want to hug angsty, confused Denzil Washington. And they put in flashback-y goodness! There should be more eerie flashbacks in movies.

Still angsty and grumpy about uni, but my thoughts are too unformed to type up, not to mention I am running out of time on the Internet. Ta ta for now, mi amigos. (I'm sure some Spanish speaker on my Flist will point out that that's been misused, but meh.)

Boy howdy! I've been taking Spanish for three years and am now capable of carrying on a semi-untarded conversation. ie) I know nothing, but I know when there oughtta be an "s"! The Venezuelans shall think of me as a god, someday. Oh, yes.

Anyway.

Gosh, I just started using the LJ tags thing. It's funky. Erm. I was being old-mannish about it and all, "Newfangled shit wtf." <-- old men are potty-mouthed.

I am incapable of making brief comments. In an attempt to remedy this, I'll summarize:
• I'm jealous of your Lion King escapades
I can fall asleep in the middle of movies, and frequently do, even when it would be considered relatively rude to do so.
The Manchurian Candidate owns my eBay-destined entrails. Seriously. Both of them. I adore Sinatra and Washington. (They totally chose the latter because of the appropriate surname. How lame, am I right?)

Anyway. Tar tar.

The book? Heavens, no. I take it it's worth a skim?

I don't see how it's possible to loathe musicals. They're so... boisterous and choreographed. At the very least, there's amusement to be had from the notion that people in that special little stage world regularly burst into coordinated song every few minutes.

Hahah! How do you say "the guide is insane"?

Oh, good. Incest. My favourite.

Bahah. I hated learning weird French songs that were supposed to teach us stuff. There's one song, "Alouette", that's about taking apart a bird. Erm. In English, something like: "Alouette, lovely Alouette, [...] gently remove its head (x2)..." et cetera, with "head" replaced by various bodyparts. As far as I can tell.

And the horrible thing is, it's catchy. Ever heard it?

Ooh. I just read the lyrics; it's not as morbid as I'd thought. Good old mishearings. >_>

Still. Poor bird.

*is jealous that you've seen the Lion King on stage*

I'm glad you had a nice time though. Sorry about being stuck on someone's living room floor and watching movies at stupid hours. That's not good, not good at all. And impolite really but I am mean so I'll be good. :)

*snugs regarding Uni*

But it isn't. *more jealousy briefly, stops being jealous because she's a good girl*

Ah I see. Just a moment of non-attention as it were. :)

*snugs more*

Whee, go you! Funny, I didn't have the same problem with the acting on We Will Rock You. Now that I think of it, though, most of the cast has been there for quite a few years and they've probably got it down pat by now. ^_^

Glad you enjoyed it, save for the uncomfortable sleep. Ah, chairs. Not the best things to try to get a night's sleep in. ^^

And for the first time I (sort of) know what you mean about university angst. ::is bouncing off the walls worrying about UCAS:: I completely love you for being able to deal with it without blowing up and axing someone! (Not that I didn't love you anyway, of course)

Well, there was little to no proper dancing in WWRY, so that probably contributes.
Aww. I don't blame you at all.
And thank you - you're inflating my ego! :)
