Edit 2: What the hell is up with my line breaks? Sorry, I don't know how to fix this :(

Edit 3: Okay, that reduces the blockiness, I suppose... Dammit, LJ, stop concentrating on text messages and fix your html!

"I would like to know who really believes in equality in the world. Everyone should be entitled to be themselves reguardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or anything else I forgot to mention.. provided they respect the rights of those around them. If people stopped worrying about their neighbor and started worrying about themselves we might actually get somewhere. Stop tryin to govern or control someone else's life and start living your own. In the words of the prophets "Be excellent to each other." If you have the time and want to participate then please post this in your LiveJournal to let those who read it know how you feel, or don't. It's cool. This is my journal and I wanted to let people know how I feel and in the long run I can only speak for myself."

I do agree mainly with the above paragraph (although I'm sure someone can poke philosophical holes in it somewhere) and the guy who wrote it also made a good point about the gay rights paragraph I saw floating around on LJ a few days ago.

Anyway. Guess what? I'm not posting this from the library, or uni, but from home! Because I have Internets! And it is fast! (And I am slightly paranoid that it will suddenly disappear although that hasn't happened yet.)

Apart from that, not much has been going on.

Oh yes - I was fiddling about with my friends groups earlier and that may result in some people being locked out of entries they were previously able to comment on. If this happens to you, it isn't that I've defriended you or anything so just let me know if there's a problem!

Peace out, dudes. Let that be today's random hippie reference.

Edit: And I did have something else I wanted to say! Went to sci-fi soc last night, watched anime.

2. Have your friends guess your favorite character from each one.
3. You can cross out the show/movie/book and put the character when someone guesses right.

In no particular order...

2) Ghost In The Shell Batou, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] angrychemist
3) Dog City
4) Saiyuki Cho Hakkai, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lycoris

8) Little Shop of Horrors Seymour, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lycoris
9) Chobits Chi, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lycoris
10) Power Stone 2

Apologies for the random selection there - I had to omit Jet Set Radio, Akira, Battle Royale and Lost because I can't pick a favourite character! (Maybe that's what makes me want to actually write fic for something...)

Am currently reading an advice book for teenage girls. The first chapter was quite useful, but I can't take the others totally seriously. I think my favourite quote so far is 'Women's sexuality is one of the most powerful forces in the world'. I guess it testifies to my anime geek-ness that I thought 'I reckon Tetsuo's psychic powers are stronger.' I fail at life ^^

Short(ish) rant on periods and certain people's comments on them )

This book is trying to keep a foot in every PC camp possible. It's actually quite entertaining.

500-odd books. Some children's books, yay! )

Ooh. Now that was like browsing in a library. I remember Tuck Everlasting was one of those books I saw on the shelf for years and never bothered to read.

Anyway. Dreamt last night of my graduation, my 21st birthday and my first day back at uni, and all three dreams were really stressful. Especially the 21st birthday one, which was disturbing.

Oh, sure. Don't include the Haruki Murakami or Dorothy Sayers I've actually read. Grr.

A few things: I'm having Psychologically Significant Battle Royale Dreams again (as opposed to just random ones); I've decided I don't really like ska music; [livejournal.com profile] lycoris has left but we had a really great week (well, I did); I finally saw Jurassic Park and felt I made the right choice not seeing it as a kid as it would have scared the pants off me; I also saw Serenity which I really liked (I liked JP too but it was scarier ^^); I still can't find a song about Kaori (from Akira, not BR); I think my family are getting very tired of me; and I am EMO. EMOOOOOOOOOO.

*cough*

If anyone does know any songs they think might fit Kaori, please tell me! This is driving me nuts.

I also read the first volume of One Piece, watched the original black-and-white version of Little Shop Of Horrors (WTF, dudes. Just... what?) saw some more Doctor Who episodes (yay for the Seventh Doctor!) went to the zoo, saw three episodes of Stingray and could have sworn it was better when I was a kid, and... yeah. Watched/read some other stuff too (okay, the reading was mainly Sweet Valley Twins books, but so what? :p)

Edit: I owe Zarrah a meme, yey.

Here's a twist on the usual letter meme - comment and I'll give you a letter. Come up with ten song titles for it, and explain why you picked it.

Zarrah gave me an M... )

Edit 2: Got a song for Kaori! Hooray for a brother with an extensive music collection.

Okay, this is partly to get that LJ thing on my login page to shut up and partly because I am following a hunch.

It is not because I'm going to scream at people who don't read and/or review my fics. Nor is it because I'm fishing for compliments.

If you don't read my Akira fics/my slash fics/my fics, feel free to ignore this. Also, if you've only read one of the two mentioned below, feel free to ignore this, because I'm mainly interested in people who've read both. (Of course, if you do want to fill it in, go ahead.)

Edit: Erm, yes, you can stop ignoring entries about drabbles now. Just thought I'd clarify that ^^

Meme as usual )

Rent drabble for [livejournal.com profile] disks_smilie Set pre-show. (I make no promises as to the quality of this.) PG.
Breakfast scene )

Jet Set Radio Future drabble for [livejournal.com profile] jenova12. G.

Echoes )

Jet Grind Radio drabble for [livejournal.com profile] kai_ds. G.

Summertime )

Sho and/or Mitsuru drabble for [livejournal.com profile] sashwizzled. PG.

Motivations )

There's a coming-of-age-novel feel to this week. "Tallulah spends her days in a silent house studying mathematics, where everything is either right or wrong, and computing, where the present becomes the past all too easily. She spends her nights taking risks and exploring violence through her writing. Outside the summer comes, bringing with it three months of promise..."

I'm sure there's some thematic goodness to be had there.

And now that I've finished being unbearably pretentious, I shall simply report on my exams as follows:

M11 - went ok. Managed to write something for nearly all the questions. Just as I was dropping off to sleep that night I realised I'd forgotten a crucial definition. But this could have gone really well or only been mediocre.

M12 - tomorrow.

M13 - due to panic and dehydration, lost it and mixed up x and y at a crucial moment. Don't feel I did the exam justice. Will blame poor lecturer and tutor anyway.

M14 - a really sneaky exam paper, but I did two questions okay and the last one may or may not have been okay (and that was my fault, I didn't bother to figure out some terminology enough)

Computing - on Thursday *prays* *makes offerings to shrine* *is so incredibly doomed*
tallulahgs: (Drabble Kaori)
The first 10 people to comment on this post get to request a drabble – ~100 words – on a subject/character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal. Post all fandoms you’re willing to write for.

(Only doing this because I demanded stuff with capslock and menaces from [livejournal.com profile] speakwrite_ and I can't disobey the meme orders. Because that'd be wrong and I might die. I'm not trying to be all 'my writing r0xxors and everyone craves it' or anything ^^)

Fandoms I am willing to write for:

Akira
Battle Royale
Jet Set Radio
Jet Set Radio Future I am iffy about but if someone really wanted it I could have a bash
Harry Potter
Rent
Little Shop of Horrors

Whatever. Any requests would make a change from Akira Royale, which keeps trying to change the intricacies of its plot. (Rocks fall, everyone dies...)

And on that note...

In which Nik and I overuse the 'rocks fall everyone dies' joke to an absurd degree )

Bleach

May. 16th, 2006 10:46 am
tallulahgs: (Dark Yama)
My hands smell of bleach. The label said not to let the stuff come into contact with your hands, but my skin isn't burning or anything... I just... don't want to let my hands come anywhere near my mouth or eyes, that's all.

(A good way of avoiding revision is to clean the kitchen. Yesterday I did the cooker hobs. Today I did the sink. The sink was bad. The draining rack was even worse. But now I have a warm glow of virtue. And bleachy hands.)

Umm... not much else to say, really... I've watched the first thirteen episodes of Ghost in The Shell: 2nd Gig and found them very enjoyable.

Don't buy Matsui VCRs because they suck (at least, the model I have does).

Anyway, the real purpose of this entry - Yet Another Meme (what, you're surprised?)

Explain the name you've chosen for your LJ. When finished, tag the same number of people as there are letters in your name, so that they will have to explain themselves as well.

'Versipellis' is Latin for 'werewolf'. I studied Latin for two years, which is how I knew about it (good course. Cool Roman villains. At least, I thought they were cool.) When I was trying to choose an LJ user name, everything I put down was already taken, so I decided to think randomly... and 'versipellis' does have a tenuous connection to me, because when I was ten, I went through a phase of pretending to be a werewolf. This didn't manifest itself in anything more random than howling at the moon to amuse my friends and family, I should add. So I thought 'why not', typed it in, and lo and behold, it had not been taken.
So now you know, [livejournal.com profile] speakwrite_.

And I have to tag... eleven people. Do I have eleven LJ friends?

I tag:

[livejournal.com profile] anax - because I know little about him/her.

[livejournal.com profile] armand_bathory - it sounds familiar, but I can't place it.

[livejournal.com profile] audiolotus - because I think he may be dead and it's worth poking him a bit.

[livejournal.com profile] digitalpr0n - is it really that obvious? ^^

[livejournal.com profile] disks_smilie - why the smilie?

[livejournal.com profile] ecchipiro - because I have no idea what it means. Unless the 'ecchi' bit is in the Japanese sense... either way, that's all I got.

[livejournal.com profile] emeraldsword - because it's pretty.

[livejournal.com profile] jenova12 - something to do with Final Fantasy, maybe? I'd like to know if I'm right ^^

[livejournal.com profile] nodrogg - because I have no idea about this one at all.

[livejournal.com profile] sashwizzled - because it's a great name while being completely baffling.

[livejournal.com profile] xreddestinyx - because why not? ^^

Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word
means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play.

[livejournal.com profile] ecchipiro gave me a B:

Battle Royale! My current manga obsession, 15 volumes of gore and slashy subtext interesting character developments
Bandchestrombo: What you get if you take the 42 BR kids and give them all a different instrument. What?
Beat: Because he's still adorable even after all these years.
Bugsy Malone: My first fandom in that I actually wrote fic for it! Except that instead of doing proper fanfic, I wrote original fic subtly influenced by it and therefore set in America for no adequately explained reason.
La Vie Boheme: My favourite song from the musical Rent (I'm not scraping the bottom of the barrel yet, trust me)
Backstage at Dreamland: One of my favourite songs from Miss Saigon.
blue: My favourite colour, more or less (shares the top spot with green). My toenails are currently painted this colour.
biscuits: A weakness of mine. (Digesssstiiiiives...)
bouncing up and down with fangirlish excitement is always fun and lets me show my immaturity
Being a geek:... *shrug* I think that's self-explanatory! ^^

Anyway... oh yes, real life.
Went to the university societies awards on Friday. Pretty good. Sore feet (I don't think I'll ever get used to wearing proper high heels). Nice dance hall - they had little white lights all over the walls like stars. I had a glass of wine and a Malibu and coke and remained pretty much sober (ok, I joined in with the screaming and hollering whenever the musicals society was mentioned, but that was team spirit, not alcohol). Duncan had one glass of wine and got very hyper.

I've actually done some revision in my spare time. Not much, but some.

My parents bought me a video recorder but although it plays, it can't record without massive interference. I have tried to sort it out (sort of) but to no avail, so I think I'll just... sit and sulk at it for a bit. Oh well.

1. Make a list of 15 characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment. (That way you're not leading the questions asked to fit the characters.)

2. Ask your friends to post questions in the comments.

For example:

"4, 6, 12 & 15 are starting a band together, what is their name and what kind of music do they play? Also, who's the lead singer, and what instruments do the others play?"

3. After your friends have asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the 15 characters you selected beforehand, and then post them.

You know, one day I will use this journal for something other than pointless memes. No, really.

Nik hath returned from Washington, and spent yesterday evening regaling us with a blow-by-blow account of the trip. He is a very entertaining raconteur. However, he is now asleep and I am not sure whether to wake him up... we're early risers in our house, and you're not meant to give in to jet-lag...

Apparently the lump in my neck (which has now been there for two months) needs attention - I'm having a blood test tomorrow and then am going to get a biopsy (I think that's the right word). The doctor said 'They'll probably either stick a needle in it or take it out.'

I dislike blades near my neck, but oh well ^_^

Am now trying not to mention it to my mum because it makes her stress. (I perhaps shouldn't have told her that the form for the biopsy that the doctor filled out was headed 'Urgent Cancer Referral Form.')

(He doesn't think it is cancer.)

(Or maybe he's just saying that... ^^)

As for revision: M12, M13 and M14 are ticking away nicely (well, I've got a whole list of queries on M13 because My lecturer is very bad at explaining things I find it difficult, but I am getting through it). M11 and computing are going very slowly and I have a horrible feeling I'm not remembering any of the stuff I've already done. Ah well. I reckon most of my classmates are in the same boat.
